Our Review Methodology
How we rate eSIM providers for South Africa — transparent and traceable.
Overview
Every eSIM provider on esimsudafrika.de is rated against five weighted criteria. The overall score is the weighted average of the individual ratings (scale 1–5).
The focus is on network coverage in safari areas — that's what sets us apart from general eSIM comparison sites, which mostly rate city coverage.
Rating Criteria
We rate coverage in three categories: cities & metro areas (e.g. Cape Town, Johannesburg), rural areas, and — especially important — safari areas and national parks. This is based on our own tests, manufacturer data, and verified user experience.
We calculate the price per GB for each provider's most economical plan and compare entry prices, data options, and validity periods. Unlimited plans are rated separately.
How easy is it to buy, install, and manage the eSIM? We test the app on iOS and Android, the QR code activation process, and how clear the instructions are.
Response time and quality of customer support — especially relevant when something goes wrong on a trip. We test chat support, email, and whether English-language support is available.
User reviews from verified sources (App Store, Google Play, Trustpilot) and reports from relevant travel forums feed into the overall rating.
